PowerLESS = PowerFUL

PowerLESS = PowerFUL

“My grace is all you need.  My power works best in weakness.”  So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.  2 Corinthians 12:9

We are powerless. This is the great equalizer of the human race. No one is superior and no one is inferior.  It doesn’t matter your education, your social status, your looks, how charming you are, how funny you are, this truth that we are powerless puts us all on an equal playing field.  We can never solve our problems with our own human might, will, strength, intelligence, or thoughts.  We are powerless. We all live by the same spiritual laws, NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE, where you came from, how much money you have, no matter how much “anything” you are. One spiritual law is that we have to let go of our own will, thoughts, strength, our everything and come to believe in a power that is greater than we are, a power that is greater than our will, strength, thoughts, actions, intelligence, beauty, problems, mistakes….greater than all!! We have to realize that just like the sun, moon, and stars, we cannot keep ourselves in orbit….we DO NOT keep ourselves in orbit. We are NOT in control.  It is an illusion to think we can be in control.  It is also a very exhausting, complicated, miserable, and insane way to live.  God can and will  work wonders in those who choose to admit they are powerless, choose to believe in this higher power, and who choose to give their will over to God.  It isn’t the smartest, youngest, strongest, prettiest, or the “est” of anything who is happy and peaceful and sane and successful.  Rather, it is those who are allowing God to be in control of their lives, those who trust that His thoughts and ways and plans are always better than our own.  We have to believe and trust and surrender and just know that he is taking care of us and that we will always be okay even if the world around us isn’t.  We don’t have to compare ourselves to others and feel inferior, jealous, or not good enough. Rather, we can walk with confidence and assurance that our lives are unfolding just the way it should and with the confidence that with God, we have everything we need to be successful and peaceful and loving, and adequate in every aspect of our lives.  We are not lacking any good thing with  God on our side!!!  1 Corinthians 1:27 says, “Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise.  And he chose things that are POWERLESS to shame those who are POWERFUL.”  That verse makes me so happy and hopeful and peaceful and all good things!!! We are always enough.  We don’t have to continue reacting in our old insane and fearful ways.  We can act out of love and faith and trust and confidence, one step at a time, keeping things simple.

When we turn our will and life over to God, we can stop judging every situation as “good” or “bad”.  Rather, we accept all situations as part of God’s plan.  We don’t have to overreact and throw an adult temper tantrum and come all unglued when things don’t go our way.  We can remain calm, peaceful, and steadfast.  We can take a step back, give it over to God, and trust that God will lead us one step at a time in the right direction.  We don’t have to worry or be afraid. We just believe, trust, and go where he leads us.  We can hear his still small voice because we are calm and still.  We cannot hear and be led when we are overreacting and fearful.

We have to remember that life isn’t all about “me”. It isn’t about being comfortable all the time or having our own way all the time.  We are on this earth to carry out Gods plan, not our own.  We have to remember this and not be selfish when people don’t act and do things the way we think is best or when things and life don’t go as we thought they should have.  We have to remember to not be so attached to outcomes, to hold people and situations loosely, always appreciating them but always willing and ready to let go when its time.  Our lives are filled with gifts, but they are just that..gifts. We do not own anyone or anything. We are borrowing them from God for a short while.  He doesn’t give them to us to manipulate and mold into our own liking and images, but rather to love unconditionally and forgive and enjoy and understand and support and have compassion, and he gives them to us to teach and to learn from , not to master or control, nor to be a footstool to, but to walk equally with to help and share and lean on and lift up and to encourage to become all that God intended.  That is my goal in all my relationships, even my relationship to my situations and circumstances in life, to hold them loosely as well, to love them all…good and bad….to know “this too shall pass”.  Good and bad times will come and go.  I want to love and appreciate both, learn and understand both,  have a good relationship with both, not to master or try to control them to my liking, but to just allow them to be without fighting them.

     Admitting we are powerLESS does not mean we become less.  Rather, we become so much more.  Where we had become so tired and weary from trying to do things with our own weak strength and might and from trying to make things be the way “we” wanted them to be, now we are powerFUL by surrendering to God and HIS will.  We become FULL through HIM, through HIS power and His strength, and His wisdom.  We are nothing on our own, but are everything through HIM.  We are powerLESS on our own, but powerFUL through HIM.
